Nanyuki Boys’ High School in Laikipia County showcased an outstanding performance in the recently released 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
Speaking to the media at the school on Monday, Chief Principal Solomon Kipkoech reported that a total of 15 candidates achieved straight A grades, while 286 attained C+ and above, securing direct entry to university.
Kipkoech highlighted the positive trajectory in the school’s overall improvement, not only in academics but also in sports and drama. Comparing the 2023 KCSE results to the previous year, he noted a significant enhancement, with an increase from four to fifteen students obtaining straight A grades. The mean score also rose from 8.890 in the previous year to 8.897 this year.
Expressing gratitude for the improved performance, Kipkoech acknowledged the efforts of a motivated teaching staff, dedicated support staff, and disciplined students. The school’s rigorous preparation included tackling over 10 trial exam papers before the KCSE exams, contributing to the successful outcomes.
Nanyuki High School, with 331 candidates in the 2023 KCSE compared to 237 in 2022, has consistently maintained its reputation as one of the most preferred National schools. Despite the high demand, the school faced limitations in accommodating all the candidates due to its capacity of 500 students.
Attributing the success to hard work, student commitment, and a positive partnership with parents, Kipkoech emphasized the completion of the syllabus on time and the proactive measures taken by both teachers and students.
Top-performing Candidates
Among the top-performing candidates were Frank Mutuota, Daniel Mamboleo, Adanoor Alinoor Isaak, Mbau Nigel Muhunyo, Odhiambo Oloo James, Ochieng Rahman Ochieng, Alex Nzeeka King’ee, Kennedy Gicheha, Karira Lawrence Njoroge, Mwangi Evans Muiruri, Wandera Peter, Mohamed Shimbir, Justin Mwenda, Omondi Duncan Owino, and Matik Awech Majok.
With Chief Principal Kipkoech at the helm for approximately a year, following his predecessor Oliver Minishi’s retirement in December 2022, education stakeholders closely observed his role in maintaining the school’s exceptional performance. Kipkoech, who had previously served at Emining High School in Nakuru and Kangaru Boys, was transferred to Nanyuki High School in January 2023 by the Ministry of Education, and in 2016, he received the Principal Award of the Year.
