The National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) have awarded a total of Sh 7.6 million in Bursary Kitty to at least 5,000 deserving pupils in Mandera County.
The funds, which will be distributed by the office of Ummul Kheir Kassim, County Woman Representative of Mandera, will support students in colleges and technical institutions throughout the county.
During the ceremony of fund distribution, Kassim exhorted the recipients to prioritize their studies and avoid activities that could impede their academic progress.
The Woman Representative emphasized that her office, through NGAAF, is committed to assisting Mandera students, particularly those pursuing teaching professions, due to the region’s teacher shortage.
She encouraged young students to pursue teaching, emphasizing the need for more educators in the region. Mandera County Commissioner, Amos Mariba, also urged students to consider enrolling in technical universities in significant numbers.
He praised the Woman Representative for transparently distributing bursary checks to the recipients, fostering discipline, and inspiring the students to work assiduously for a bright future.

The Kapenguria National Government Constituency Development Fund has allocated Sh31,600,000 for scholarships to brilliant students attending secondary and tertiary institutions nationwide.
6 337 students in the Kapenguria constituency received a Sh5,000 school or college tuition scholarship as a result of the bursary distribution.
This year, 22,731 pupils from the constituency applied for bursaries, of which 6,337 were chosen as the most disadvantaged.
The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) allocated Sh6,585,000 to college and university students, and Sh25,1,000,000 to secondary school students.
The principals of the schools and institutions received the bursary funding checks and student recipient lists.
During the distribution of bursary funds at the Kapenguria NGCDF Offices, local representative Samuel Moroto stated that the funds will assist students who require financial assistance to remain in school.
Mr. Moroto acknowledged that not all students who applied for financial aid for their education may have received it, but he expressed hope that his administration would find other methods to assist all students who are struggling financially so they can continue their education.
He urged the school principals to use the bursary judiciously for the students’ benefit and promised them additional government support for the education sector.
Moroto urged school principals to negotiate with parents rather than expel students for nonpayment of school fees.
He suggested that students should return the favor by focusing on their academics and achieving success for a bright future.
The representative also urged parents to take their children’s education seriously and provide them with the finest opportunities.
He informed the constituents that the government has a well-considered plan to enhance school infrastructure throughout the entire district.
Richard Mastaluk, a member of the County Assembly (MCA) for the Kapenguria ward, implored parents to live closer to their children to prevent them from engaging in destructive behaviors such as drug abuse and early pregnancy.
Furthermore, MCA Mastaluk emphasized the importance of parents and education stakeholders collaborating to improve the quality of education in the region. He urged them to join forces and work together towards this common goal.
Rael Aleutum, woman representative for West Pokot in the House of Representatives, urged Kenyans to allow the Kenya Kwanza administration time to fulfill their campaign pledges.
As it was too early to begin campaigning for a candidate, Aleutum urged the local populace to refrain from early campaigning until the 2027 general elections.
Ruth Wachera, assistant county commissioner of West Pokot Sub-County, stated that the allocation of bursaries was consistent with the government’s commitment to raising education standards across the nation.

The governor stated that out of a bursary budget of Sh435 million, Sh15,000 was allocated for boarding secondary school students, Sh10,000 for college and university students, and Sh5,000 for day secondary school and driving school students.
