NITA Launches Sector Committee for Quality Industrial Training Standards.
The National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) in Athi River has inaugurated its third Sector Training Committee (STC) to enhance worker upskilling across various sectors. This initiative aims to address gaps in skills training while fostering collaboration for improved industrial standards.
During the inauguration, Mohamed Ali Noor, Chair of the NITA Board of Directors, explained the critical role of STCs in bridging gaps identified in skills training.
He noted that the STC members represent specialized organizations that collaborate with NITA to refine expertise, embrace emerging technologies, and meet industrial training quality standards.
Noor highlighted that the committee includes representatives from 12 diverse sectors, such as agriculture, energy, water, tourism, sports, environment, real estate, communication, business, infrastructure, and allied agencies. This broad representation is designed to ensure comprehensive skill development that caters to both current and future industry demands.

Practical-Focused Training for All Learners
The NITA training approach, according to Noor, emphasizes practicality, with 80% of its activities being hands-on.
He stated that the institution is open to all learners, from Grade 8 dropouts to university students seeking to reskill. By providing inclusive training opportunities, NITA aims to equip Kenyans with the necessary skills to thrive in the job market.

Noor stressed the importance of young people shifting focus from scarce white-collar jobs to acquiring technical skills that can reduce unemployment in the country. He urged more Kenyans to take advantage of NITA’s training programs to better position themselves in the workforce.
The inauguration, themed “Fostering Collaboration and Advancing Skills Development through Sector Leadership,” underscored NITA’s commitment to working with sector leaders to advance training programs and address the growing demand for skilled labor locally and abroad.
By continuously refining its approach and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, NITA aims to maintain its position as a leader in industrial training, equipping Kenyans for success in an ever-changing labor market.
