Nyandarua University College Set to Open After Final Approval.

Efforts to establish Nyandarua University College are advancing swiftly, with the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Nyandarua County Government conducting a final inspection of lecture rooms and departmental offices at the Ol-Joro Orok Agricultural Training Centre (ATC). This marks a critical step toward the institution’s official launch.

Governor Kiarie Badilisha, alongside Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, and a CUE delegation, visited the center on Tuesday.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the facility and prepare a final report that will guide the formal announcement of the University College’s establishment. Prof. Hutchinson expressed the intention to support the university’s development, aiming to make it globally competitive.

“We intend to support the establishment of the University and make it a globally competitive,” said Prof. Margaret Jesang.

The inspection was described as a significant milestone, as CUE, the regulatory body for higher education in Kenya, evaluated the readiness of the University College for interim registration. Both the Governor and the CUE team praised the substantial progress made in preparing the institution for its new role.

    County Government’s Financial Commitment

Governor Badilisha highlighted the County Administration’s significant financial investment in renovating buildings and upgrading infrastructure previously used by the Animal Health and Industry Training Institute (AHITI) in Nyahururu before its relocation.

The facility now boasts lecture and dining halls, a well-equipped library, and an administration block, among other amenities.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s steadfast commitment to realizing the long-awaited dream of establishing the university. He noted that the County Government has allocated resources to develop the necessary infrastructure for the university’s launch.

The long-term vision includes establishing the main campus at Captain Trading Centre and potentially creating satellite campuses in other sub-counties. Badilisha expressed confidence that this dream would soon become a reality.

The University of Nairobi has pledged to support the transformation of the constituent college into a fully-fledged university. This commitment underscores the collaborative effort to ensure the institution’s success.

Governor Badilisha has already held productive discussions with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Commission for University Education, and local Members of Parliament. These deliberations aim to expedite the establishment process, bringing the vision of Nyandarua University College closer to fruition.
