He stated that relying on teachers from other areas has often led to classrooms without instructors, especially during periods of crisis when external teachers seek transfers.
The president praised counties for their efforts in sponsoring local students to teacher training colleges.

He pledged additional support, announcing that the government will implement affirmative action to increase enrollment opportunities for teacher trainees from pastoralist regions.
President Ruto remarked that by training and employing more teachers from these areas, the government aims to ensure children from pastoralist communities have consistent access to quality education.

In a bold move to address the teacher shortage across the country, President Ruto declared: “I will employ 20,000 more teachers this December.”
He emphasized that this initiative would prioritize regions with acute teacher shortages, particularly those in pastoralist areas, to enhance educational access for marginalized communities.
“We are going to provide affirmative action for you if you sponsor more teachers. We will create more places in teacher training institutions so that we can train and employ teachers from this region,” he affirmed.
The president expressed confidence in the role of education in fostering unity and cohesion across Kenya.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders to work together to make Kenya a stronger and more prosperous nation.
