The president outlined that the initial phase would focus on hiring approximately 20,000 youths from Nairobi under the Climate WorX Mtaani Initiative.

Following this, the initiative would be rolled out to other counties. Enrollment for youths in Nairobi is scheduled to begin on October 1, and they are encouraged to seize the opportunity by applying for the available positions.

Expansion to Other Counties

In addition to Nairobi, President Ruto shared that Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa, and Uasin Gishu counties would be among the first to benefit from this initiative.

He emphasized that after the first month, the programme would be extended to all other counties, aiming to involve around 200,000 youths in environmental conservation efforts.

President Ruto highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation policy, which aims to provide employment opportunities while addressing environmental concerns.

Climate WorX Mtaani Initiative Overview

The Climate WorX Mtaani Initiative is a government-led climate action and livelihoods programme that will engage around 200,000 youths in various environment sustainability activities.

“After one month we shall include all the other remaining counties in the programme because we want to have about 200,000 youths dealing with the environmental issues.”

One key focus will be tree planting, which is part of the government’s larger 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme, intended to accelerate tree planting efforts nationwide.
