President Ruto Sponsors Needy Students from Each of Nairobi’s 17 Constituencies.

President William Ruto has kept his promise to sponsor 10 underprivileged girls from each of Nairobi’s 17 constituencies, enabling them to join PCEA Booth Girls’ High School in Ngong Forest. The commitment was first made in March 2025 during the school’s official launch.

In a breakfast event held at State House Nairobi, President Ruto hosted the beneficiaries along with their parents and teachers. He emphasized that the initiative would enable disadvantaged learners to access quality education and pursue their dreams without financial constraints.

The President explained that over 200 students were benefiting from the sponsorship, which fully covers school fees, uniforms, and shopping. He added that he had instructed the Ministry of Education to select students from the most vulnerable backgrounds to ensure fairness and equity.

Speaking during the event, President Ruto reaffirmed his commitment, saying he personally directed the Education Ministry to guarantee the selected students came from needy households. He also mentioned that teachers had already been deployed to the institution by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure smooth learning.

The government has allocated Ksh.1 billion for building more classrooms in Nairobi to address the shortage of learning spaces. President Ruto disclosed that, after visiting Nairobi and observing the gaps, he and his team committed to constructing 240 classrooms across the city within 90 days.

He also announced plans to establish a new school in Mabatini, Mathare Constituency, aiming to reduce educational disparities in the area.

National Education Development

Nationwide, the government is constructing 23,000 classrooms to ensure a seamless transition from Junior School to Senior School under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). President Ruto said the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to strengthening the education sector, especially during the CBC rollout.

He stressed the importance of education in society, noting that it plays a vital role in leveling the playing field for children from different backgrounds.

“Education is the most powerful equaliser. It gives every child, regardless of background, a fair chance to succeed,” the President said.

To expand financial support for needy students, the President announced that the National Government is working with county governments to create a legal framework for joint scholarship programmes. He confirmed that he had directed the Ministry of Education to collaborate with the Council of Governors on this initiative.

He stated that once the framework is in place, both levels of government would be empowered to offer bursaries, enhancing access to education for learners across the country.

Several Nairobi leaders, including MPs Phelix Odiwuor (Lang’ata), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Anthony Olouch (Mathare), Timothy Wanyonyi (Westlands), and Esther Passaris (Nairobi County), attended the event, showing their support for the President’s education agenda.

Away from education, President Ruto shared that the government’s affordable housing project is progressing steadily. He assured that new homeowners would soon receive keys to their houses, marking a milestone in the government’s housing programme.
