Protest: Ramba Boys School Students Burn Building, Demand Transfer of Principal.
Tension gripped Ramba Boys High School in Siaya County on Thursday evening as students staged demonstrations demanding the immediate removal of their principal, Wycliffe Manoa. The protest broke out around 6 p.m., with learners voicing displeasure over what they described as poor management and ineffective leadership by the head of the institution.
Despite efforts by several teachers to de-escalate the situation, the students refused to back down, insisting that the school head must go. They reportedly said they would not cease their demonstrations until the administration addressed their grievances.
As the situation intensified, the students forcefully exited the institution and headed to a nearby market centre to continue their protests. Video footage obtained by Teachersupdates.news showed them marching through the market, holding twigs and repeatedly chanting the principal’s name in unison.
During the protest, the students torched the security house located near the school’s main gate. The event mirrored earlier unrest experienced at the institution just a few weeks prior.
Last month, the school faced similar disruption after two students tragically lost their lives when a septic tank collapsed. The incident sparked a violent rampage on March 23, during which students destroyed school property and refused to attend classes.
As a result, the principal sent the students home, and the school was closed indefinitely. The deceased students, both in Form Four, had reportedly been standing on top of the septic tank along with several others when the structure gave way.

Details of the Septic Tank Tragedy
Eyewitnesses told the media that more than eight students were atop the tank when it suddenly caved in. Rarieda Deputy County Commissioner later confirmed that a rescue team was quickly deployed from Siaya town to recover the students.
Community members also assisted in retrieving the bodies, which were taken to the Bondo Hospital mortuary. Those who sustained injuries during the incident were treated at nearby health facilities.
One student remarked that they had suffered for too long under the principal’s leadership and wanted change. Another added that they were tired of false promises. The administration has yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest protest or the students’ demands.
