PS Belio Kipsang Champions Inclusive Education at Schools Connect Dialogue.
Education leaders and stakeholders are advocating for increased support to address the challenges faced in inclusive education, especially for children with disabilities.
This was the key message during the opening session of the Schools Connect Dialogue 2024, organised by the British Council.
The event is being held in Nairobi from Tuesday, October 15, to Thursday, October 17, bringing together key players to discuss strategies for advancing inclusive education.
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, who officiated the meeting, acknowledged that while progress has been made in inclusive education, significant challenges persist.
He noted that every child has a right to education and the chance to reach their full potential, underscoring the necessity of inclusive approaches that offer all school-going children the opportunity to obtain quality and relevant education.

He highlighted that fostering an environment where all students feel valued and accepted can improve academic performance and mental well-being.
Despite these achievements, Dr. Kipsang acknowledged that challenges persist, such as inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of specially trained teachers, and persistent societal stigma, particularly in marginalized regions.
He called on partners and stakeholders to work closely with the government to tackle these issues effectively.
He identified teacher training as a priority area, suggesting the need for equipping educators with the skills to address the diverse needs of all students. Dr. Kipsang also recommended community involvement through awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and encourage acceptance.
The Role of Partnerships
Kipsang urged education partners to step up efforts in addressing these issues. He stressed the need for more resources to overcome these obstacles and foster an environment where all learners feel accepted and supported.
A representative from the British Council, Lieke Van de Wield, emphasised that partnerships play a crucial role in achieving inclusive education.
She pointed out the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders and the need for innovative solutions to ensure that every child has access to quality education.
