According to Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok, participation in these disciplines is fundamental in fostering academic excellence, discipline, resilience, and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Bitok emphasized that engaging in Arts and Sports Sciences provides learners with essential opportunities to develop social skills, embrace teamwork, and enhance character development.

Prof. Bitok urged schools, parents, and the wider community to appreciate and encourage students who pursue the Arts and Sports academic pathway under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) education reforms.

From his office in Jogoo, Nairobi, the Principal Secretary expressed appreciation to the National Government, led by President Dr. William Ruto, along with the Sports Fund, Brookside, and other partners, for their financial and material contributions toward the ongoing national sporting and arts tournaments. He noted that this support has significantly improved participation, morale, and academic excellence among students.

Prof. Bitok advocated for increased partnerships, particularly in special needs activities, to ensure equity, inclusivity, and the holistic development of all learners. He noted that arts and sports serve as platforms for students to display their talents in various co-curricular activities, with the potential to shape careers by harnessing skills in different disciplines.

In line with fostering sports and the Arts as a career pathway under CBC, he encouraged patriotic Kenyans and sports enthusiasts to take the lead in investing in and supporting learners. He stated that such efforts would boost learners’ confidence and morale, reinforcing Kenya’s strong sporting heritage.

“In the spirit of nurturing sports and the Arts which is a pathway under CBC Arts and Sports sciences, I call upon patriotic Kenyans and sports enthusiasts to be at the forefront in the collective efforts to invest in and support learners, which will ultimately boost their confidence and morale to carry on with the Kenyan sporting heroic culture,” he said.

National Championship Competitions and Event Schedule

The national-level championship competitions, featuring a variety of arts and sporting activities, are being held in different regions on different dates. These began with teacher training colleges at Kababii Teachers Training College in Bungoma County, paving the way for learners in pre-primary, primary, junior, and senior schools.

The prestigious Drama and Film Festivals are set to take place from April 7-19 at Afraha High School in Nakuru County, culminating in a State Concert on April 18. Additional activities include secondary schools’ special sports at Shanzu Teachers Training College and Sahajanand Special School in Mombasa from April 5-13.
