PS Inyangala Calls for Adoption of Smart Education in Universities.
The State Department for Higher Education and Research Principal Secretary, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, has called on institutions of higher learning to adopt smart education strategies. She highlighted the transformative potential of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), in reshaping the educational landscape.
Dr. Inyangala underscored the necessity of equipping students with 21st-century skills through innovative education systems. In her remarks, she explained how integrating AI into learning systems could revolutionize education by personalizing learning experiences, facilitating data-driven decision-making, and improving student engagement.
Dr. Inyangala also emphasized Kenya’s adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) as a progressive step toward integrating digital literacy and fostering critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. She stated that this approach is essential for building an education system that is both sustainable and adaptable.
These insights were delivered on her behalf by Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, during the “Hikvision Safe Campus and Smart Education” Open Day held at Safari Park Hotel.
Karatina University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Linus Muthuri Gitonga, reiterated the urgency for higher education institutions to embrace advanced technological solutions. He pointed out that technological innovation is no longer a luxury but a necessity for modern campuses.

He stressed the dual importance of enhancing campus safety and fostering smarter learning environments. Prof. Gitonga remarked that the integration of innovative solutions could significantly improve both the safety and educational experiences of students and staff.

At the event, Embu University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Ngendi, discussed the importance of leveraging advanced technologies, such as AI and the Internet of Things (IoT), in higher education.
Prof. Ngendi emphasized the role of biometric security systems, crime prevention education, and partnerships with local authorities in improving campus safety. Additionally, he highlighted the potential of digital platforms and interactive tools to create dynamic learning environments that align with future educational demands.
