Ruto: 2024 KCSE Results Reflect Progress in Education Reform.

The Ministry of Education announced the eagerly anticipated 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results on Thursday, January 9.

The results showed significant improvements, a development attributed to the Kenya Kwanza government’s investments in the education sector.

President William Ruto expressed his satisfaction with the 2024 KCSE outcomes while addressing residents in Uasin Gishu County.

He noted remarkable progress in the education system compared to previous years, emphasizing better performance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, which had historically lagged.

He also mentioned an increase in the participation of female candidates in the examinations and credited the progress to his government’s dedication to education reforms, including teacher recruitment efforts.

Ruto highlighted that the employment of 76,000 teachers over two years was unprecedented in Kenya’s history.

Highlights of the 2024 KCSE Performance

According to the Ministry of Education, 962,512 candidates sat for the 2024 KCSE exams, with significant milestones noted:

In total, 246,391 candidates attained grades qualifying them for direct university entry. However, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed that 712,537 candidates did not meet the university entry threshold, while 48,333 scored a grade E.

Factors Behind Improved Results

President Ruto attributed the positive trends to the Kenya Kwanza government’s focus on education, particularly teacher recruitment. He remarked that no previous administration had hired as many as 76,000 teachers within two years, underscoring the government’s efforts to address teacher shortages.

Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to bolstering the education sector, asserting that the improvements in the KCSE results are evidence of the government’s efforts.
