School Bus Accident on Mombasa Road Leaves Several Pupils Injured
A number of pupils sustained injuries on Tuesday morning following a road accident along Mombasa Road in the Sabaki area of Mavoko, Machakos County. The school bus, which was transporting them, lost control on the slippery road and overturned.
Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene, assisting in extracting the pupils from the wreckage before rushing them to different hospitals in Athi River. Although the exact number of those involved remains unclear, no fatalities were recorded from the early-morning crash.
Footage circulating on social media captured the school bus lying on its side, surrounded by onlookers. The extent of the damage was visible, with shattered windows, broken side mirrors, and a damaged windscreen, emphasizing the severity of the accident. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7 am, caused a significant traffic jam on the busy road as motorists struggled to maneuver through the congestion.
Following the crash, authorities towed the bus to Athi River Police Station for inspection. Meanwhile, officers have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Another Fatal Crash in Nakuru County
The Mavoko accident took place just hours after a separate crash in the Sobea area of Nakuru County, where two people lost their lives and several others were critically injured. Reports indicate that a 14-seater matatu, belonging to a well-known bus company, veered out of control and crashed into a truck, instantly killing two passengers.
The collision, which occurred at around 5 am, happened while the matatu was en route from Salgaa to Nakuru Town with ten passengers on board. The injured victims were rushed to Nakuru Provincial Hospital for medical attention, while the deceased were transported to the same facility for preservation and post-mortem examination.
