Schools Selected to Pilot Digital Literacy Project for CBC Coding and Robotics
Ten schools in Lodwar town have been selected to pilot the Digital Literacy Project. This initiative aims to introduce young learners to creative coding and robotics, aligning with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The eight-month pilot, funded by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and implemented by the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) and M-Lugha Foundation, will set up ICT clubs.
Learners in Grades 4-8 will be guided to use “Scratch,” a tool endorsed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
“In the education stakeholders’ trilogy of digital devices, teachers, and content, the child should be at the center,” he said.

He mentioned that in the digital age, children should be the central focus of education stakeholders, encompassing digital devices, teachers, and content.
Moses Korea noted that the EIDU digital literacy initiative for Early Childhood Development would enhance ICT knowledge among primary school learners, complementing the current project.
Abdullahi Hassan Maalim, FCDC Education and Governance Sector Lead, pointed out the project’s focus on sustainability to ensure it can be scaled up in the future.
Teacher Involvement and Encouragement
At the training’s conclusion, Sammy Loitakol, the Director for the Teacher Service Commission (Turkana County), encouraged teachers to apply their knowledge and share it with their peers. He urged them to improve their lesson presentations to have a greater impact.
