Striking KUPPET Teachers Demand TSC CEO Nancy Macharia’s Resignation
As the teachers’ strike continues, a group of educators in Kericho County, represented by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), has called for the resignation of Teachers Service Commission (TSC) boss Nancy Macharia.
The demand comes after a court order temporarily halted the ongoing strike, a decision that has sparked frustration among the striking teachers.
Accusing Macharia of violating labor rules, the teachers argue that negotiations, not court orders, should resolve disputes. They remain defiant, insisting that they will not be intimidated by the TSC’s actions, and are determined to continue their strike until their demands are fully addressed.

“Labor disputes are supposed to be negotiated, you don’t throw us court orders. We are saying Nancy Macharia should go.”
Government Response
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was also drawn into the controversy when he was asked to comment on the ongoing strike. He acknowledged the teachers’ grievances but refrained from making any immediate promises, stating that he would take their concerns to the highest level of government for further discussion.
The strike has already led to significant disruptions in the school calendar. Some junior secondary schools have had to renew their interns’ contracts for an additional four months.
Daniel Mory, the JSS Secretary General, expressed frustration over the lack of transparency regarding the transition of these interns to permanent and pensionable positions.
