Teacher Promotions: KUPPET Threatens Nationwide Strike
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is requesting that the government, and more specifically the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), address concerns regarding the promotion of teachers and ensure that eligible teachers be promoted in a timely manner.
A statement made by Akelo Misori, the Secretary General of the KUPPET, on Tuesday indicated that the union intends to call a statewide strike in the event that the TSC does not swiftly resolve their issues surrounding teacher promotions.

Misori underlined the extended stagnation of a large number of teachers in a single job group and emphasized the requirement for the Transitional Service Commission to provide clarification on this topic.
In addition to this, he pointed out that the morale of a great number of teachers who have been working in the same job group for an extended period of time has been negatively diminished.

Misori made the observation that despite recent promotions of teachers by the TSC in response to parliamentary approval for funds, some of the teachers who were promoted have either gone away or retired, while a significant number of teachers who are deserving of promotions have not yet been promoted.
