Teachers Flock to TSC Headquarters After Technical Failures Blocks Thousands in Job Applications.
Teachers have congregated at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Headquarters following widespread technical failures that disrupted the application process for 46,000 advertised vacancies.
Frustrated by the system’s malfunction, the applicants sought to escalate the matter after days of failed attempts to submit their applications online.
Thousands of teachers applying for the TSC vacancies encountered numerous technical errors while lodging their applications. The main issue reported was the delay in receiving the one-time password (OTP), an essential requirement for completing the application.
Despite the urgency imposed by the one-week deadline, many applicants had to wait for extended periods, leading some to speculate that the problems might be intentional.
Early Portal Failures and Escalating Concerns
Initially, many applicants faced an ‘internal server error’ notification when trying to access the portal. Despite repeated attempts, most were unable to log in.
By October 2, just a day after applications began, teachers were growing increasingly anxious about the looming deadline.

Several applicants expressed their frustrations online, stating that they had been trying to log in without success.
One applicant mentioned that they had attempted to access the portal since the previous day, but to no avail, while others urged the TSC’s ICT department to address the issue before the October 7 deadline.
Amid the growing complaints, the TSC issued a statement to address the technical hitches. The commission attributed the failures to a technical glitch and reassured applicants that their team was working to resolve the issue.
They apologized for the inconvenience and asked for patience as they sought to restore the portal’s functionality swiftly.
Continued Challenges Despite TSC Assurances
Even with the TSC’s assurances, applicants continued to face challenges as the deadline drew nearer.
The delay in receiving the OTP persisted, with some applicants waiting days to receive it. This significantly hindered their progress in completing their applications.
Numerous teachers echoed their frustrations, reporting that they had been unable to sleep due to repeatedly attempting to access the system.
This technical failure added to the broader challenges teachers had been experiencing recently.
The ongoing application challenges came on the heels of previous difficulties for teachers. Earlier, the government announced that the Treasury did not have sufficient funds to hire new teachers.
However, Finance Minister John Mbadi later clarified that the funds were available but could not be accessed until January 2025.
Breakdown of Teacher Recruitment
Despite these initial funding challenges, the TSC announced the recruitment of 46,000 teachers, distributed as follows:
- 38,500 positions for Junior Secondary Schools
- 6,000 positions for Primary Schools
- 450 positions for Secondary Schools
