Teen Mothers in Embu Given Scholarships to Resume Education.
Nearly 400 teenage mothers from Embu County, who had dropped out of school due to pregnancy, now have a renewed opportunity to pursue their education.
The office of Woman Representative Pamela Njoki has awarded full scholarships to enable these young mothers to resume schooling under a program named “Restored Hope.”
This initiative, financed through the National Government Affirmative Fund (NGAAF), aims to give these girls a fresh start in their educational journey.
The program is set to kick off in January 2024 with the first cohort of beneficiaries, while a second group will commence in January 2025.
The Woman Representative expressed confidence that the initiative would empower young mothers affected by early pregnancies to achieve their educational and personal aspirations.
“It has been my desire to restore the dashed education goals of our young girls who did not manage to complete their secondary education as a result of early pregnancy,” she said.
Financial Support and Future Plans
During a cheque disbursement event at Siakago Girls High School in Mbeere North Sub-County, Pamela Njoki distributed over Sh3 million to the scholarship recipients.
She noted that the program was part of her broader vision to restore the interrupted education goals of these young girls.
Additionally, she mentioned plans to assist the beneficiaries in starting small businesses by providing startup capital once they complete their studies.

In a parallel effort, the Woman Representative also introduced a program to support boys unable to continue with post-secondary education due to financial constraints.
Known as the Boy Child Short Course Program, this initiative aims to enroll young men in vocational institutions for technical courses that promote self-employment.
To facilitate this, her office has partnered with Achievers College of Professionals in Embu to offer these courses at subsidized fees.
Empowering Youth Through Education
Ms. Njoki emphasized her commitment to societal empowerment through education. She noted that equipping youth with skills and knowledge gives them the potential to achieve beyond their expectations.
Her office prioritizes providing educational access and skill development to enable young people to become self-reliant.
The scholarship recipients expressed immense gratitude for the chance to restore their academic dreams.
Evelyne Mwende, a 20-year-old who dropped out of school in 2019 due to financial challenges and subsequently married, shared her joy at rejoining school in January 2024 through the program.
