Term Two 2025 Academic Calendar (Term Dates): Learning, Sports, and Arts.

The second term of the 2025 academic calendar has officially kicked off and runs until August 1, offering students 14 weeks of active learning combined with enriching extracurricular experiences. The mid-term break is scheduled from June 25 to June 29. After the term ends, the August holiday will span from August 4 to August 22, before schools reopen for Term Three on August 25, which will run until October 24, 2025.

Teachers have described Term Two as a crucial period that balances classroom focus with vital co-curricular development. One school principal said the term encourages students to “grow academically while developing confidence and teamwork through events outside class.”

Term Two is known for its vibrant co-curricular calendar. From intense sports competitions to cultural showcases, students are expected to engage in various national and regional events. These activities play a vital role in nurturing talent and building character.

Scheduled from July 26 to August 3 at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, the national secondary school sports bring together students under 18 from across Kenya to compete in a variety of disciplines. These include soccer, volleyball, rugby 7s, basketball 3×3, netball, badminton, and tennis.

Teams will arrive on July 27, and clinics will run from July 26 to 28. The official opening ceremony takes place on July 28, followed by action-packed matches from July 29 to August 2. The event concludes with the closing ceremony on August 2, and participants depart on August 3.

The Kenya Music Festival, a key highlight of the term, will run from August 1 to 14 in Meru. Hosted at Meru School and Kaaga Girls, the event will begin with participant arrivals on August 1, followed by the opening ceremony on August 2.

The competitive performances will be staged between August 2 and 10, culminating in a Gala Concert on August 11 and 12. A State Concert, reserved for the best performances, is scheduled for August 13. Departure of participants will follow on August 14.

One teacher noted, “This festival is more than music—it’s a celebration of identity, culture, and national unity.”

Following the national event, top performers will proceed to represent Kenya at the East Africa Music, Dance & Drama Festival, held in Arusha, Tanzania, from August 15 to 25. Students arrive on August 16, with performance days spanning August 18 to 23. Departures are set for August 24.

This regional competition offers a broader cultural exchange platform and further cultivates artistic excellence.
