Top 200 Schools Nationally and Mean Scores in 2024 KCSE Results.

Schools from metropolitan counties, particularly Nairobi and Kiambu, dominated the top 10 list. Apart from Kajiado’s Merishaw and Nandi’s Kapsabet Boys, all other top 10 institutions were from these regions.

Comparison to 2023 Top Schools

In 2023, only Kapsabet Boys retained its spot in the top five in 2024. Last year’s top five included Kabarak High School, Mudasa Academy, Kapsabet Boys, Light Academy Mombasa, and Strathmore School. Mudasa Academy’s private school excellence was mirrored this year by Merishaw’s success.


Broader Regional Performances

While metropolitan counties dominated the top 10, other regions showcased impressive results in the top 20 and beyond:

Top Schools by Region

  • Nairobi and Kiambu: Led with 12 out of the top 20 schools.
  • Western Kenya: Friends School Kamusinga and St. Brigid’s Girls High School Kiminini excelled.
  • Rift Valley: Kapsabet Boys, Moi High School Kabarak, and Moi Girls Eldoret led the pack.
  • Nyanza: Maseno School and Maranda High School stood out.
  • Coast: Sheikh Khalifa and Light Academy Mombasa were among the top 50.

National Trends and Records

The 2024 KCSE examinations set several records:

  • Highest University Admission Rates: 246,391 students scored C+ and above, up from 201,133 in 2023.
  • Gender Milestone: For the first time, more girls (482,202) than boys (480,310) sat the exams, accounting for 50.10% of candidates.
  • Improved Subject Performance: 17 out of 30 subjects showed better results compared to 2023.

Highlights from Top Regions

  • Western: St. Joseph’s Kitale and St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale ranked within the top 60.
  • Eastern: Kitui School and Makueni Boys High excelled.
  • Coast: Sheikh Khalifa (9.13) led the region, followed by Light Academy Mombasa.
