Trade Unions Registrar Calls for Feedback on KUNOPPET Constitution Amendments.

The Registrar of Trade Unions has issued a directive concerning amendments to the constitution of the Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education Teachers (KUNOPPET). Ann Kanake, the registrar, urged members who opposed the proposed changes to formally express their objections.

Dated 6th February 2025, the notice required objections to be submitted in writing within twenty-one (21) days. Kanake informed members that the proposed amendments were available for review at her office during working hours.

KUNOPPET National Chairman, Lawrence Otunga, had earlier expressed opposition to the amendments. In a statement issued on 22nd January 2025, he alleged that the constitutional changes were being pursued in secrecy.

Otunga stated that he had not been informed of the proposals and described the process as unlawful, unprocedural, and a direct violation of the Labour Relations Act, specifically Section 27(2)(c).

A Gazette Notice, numbered 515 of 2025, regarding the proposed constitutional amendments had been issued on 15th January 2025. The notice was set to remain active for 21 days, leaving members with less than two weeks to submit their responses.
