TSC: 76,000 Teachers Recruited to Strengthen CBC Implementation.
The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) chairperson, Dr. Jamleck Muturi John, highlighted the dedication of educators and stakeholders in ensuring the successful administration of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Conducted from October 20 to November 22, these exams marked a pivotal moment for learners, symbolizing months of rigorous preparation and teamwork involving students, teachers, and parents.
Dr. Muturi commended the cabinet secretary and the inter-ministerial team for their leadership in achieving this milestone.
Dr. Muturi extended heartfelt congratulations to the candidates receiving their results. He emphasized that this success represents a stepping stone to future endeavors, encouraging students to view this as the beginning of a transformative journey.
He urged them to embrace opportunities as they transition to new academic and career phases.
Addressing Teacher Shortages
To address challenges in the education sector, especially teacher shortages, the TSC has made significant strides over the past two years.
Through government support, 76,000 teachers have been recruited to bolster the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Among these recruits, 20,000 are interns placed in junior secondary schools, with a strategic focus on increasing the number of science educators to advance STEM education. This initiative equips learners with essential skills for a technologically evolving world.

In a bid to foster professional growth, the government has allocated additional funding for teacher promotions.
This financial year, interviews are being conducted to promote 25,288 teachers across various grades. Since last year, 59,792 educators have advanced their careers through such initiatives. The TSC encouraged all eligible teachers to seize these opportunities for career advancement.
Capacity Building for Teachers
Capacity building remains a priority for the TSC. Over 229,292 primary school teachers have undergone retraining, alongside 60,000 junior secondary school educators, to support the CBC.
These programs aim to ensure teachers are well-equipped to meet learners’ diverse needs and implement the curriculum effectively. Such efforts reaffirm the commission’s dedication to delivering quality education to public school students.
