TSC Accused of Issuing Over 3,000 Teacher Employment Letters to Politicians.
Naivasha MP Jane Kihara has raised concerns about the ongoing recruitment of teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
She criticized the process as being skewed to favor pro-government Members of Parliament (MPs), alleging that at least 3,000 employment letters had been distributed to politicians, predominantly MPs.
Kihara argued that the exercise should be suspended and subjected to investigations to address claims of bias. She claimed that the recruitment process had taken a political dimension, benefiting select constituencies while others were excluded. Consequently, hundreds of qualified teachers risked missing out on opportunities despite meeting the required academic standards.
Claims of Political Interference
The MP traced the problem to the previous year, alleging that pro-government MPs were given employment forms to distribute to teachers in their constituencies.
She emphasized that MPs who supported impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were excluded from what she referred to as the “presidential Christmas gift.”
She highlighted the public perception that the employment forms were selectively issued to MPs aligned with the President’s faction. She expressed concerns about the unfair treatment of teachers and called for an immediate halt to the alleged favoritism.
Speaking at Naivasha Day Secondary School during a ceremony where she donated a school bus, Kihara lamented the challenges facing the education sector, including corruption and inadequate funding.
She noted that many schools lacked Junior Secondary School (JSS) classrooms, which could lead to grade nine students missing out on education opportunities.
Kihara further criticized the government for failing to release capitation funds, a situation that has rendered many schools unable to function effectively. She also pointed out concerns about the new university funding model, which she said had locked out hundreds of students from poor families.
She stated that the controversial funding framework had caused immense suffering for families struggling to finance higher education for their children.
Successes at Naivasha Day Secondary School
On a positive note, the principal of Naivasha Day Secondary School, Amos Gamba, reported a significant increase in the school’s enrollment over the past five years, rising from 800 to 1,500 students.
He attributed the improvement in academic performance to the school’s commitment to quality education and expressed optimism that the new bus would further motivate students.

The school’s chairman, Joseph Kibuta, acknowledged that parents had long wished for a school bus but were constrained by economic challenges.
He commended the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) for its timely support, noting that the school plays a critical role in educating children from economically disadvantaged families.
