TSC and Teacher Unions Set to Negotiate 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
While addressing the Kenya Primary School Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) regional annual general meeting at Migori Stadium, Nyanza TSC Regional Director Japhet Kariuki announced that consultations are underway between the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the National Education Reform Committee (NERC), and teachers’ unions to initiate discussions on the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
These talks are set to focus on critical areas concerning teachers’ career progression and overall welfare.
A central proposal under discussion is the extension of career grades for both primary and secondary school teachers. Currently, primary school teachers reach a career ceiling at grade D1, but the CBA is advocating for this to be raised to grade D2.
For senior secondary school teachers, there is a push to extend their career grade to D6. The Director, Japhet Kariuki, emphasized that such changes would lead to enhanced career progression and better compensation for teachers.
