TSC Announces Teacher Category Selections for Double Promotions

A significant number of teachers will receive double promotions from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). The P1 teachers are the initial beneficiaries of this promotion.

There will be significant benefits for P1 TSC teachers who excelled in the December 2023 interviews. This follows TSC’s announcement of 6,000 vacancies specifically allocated for them, primarily aimed at junior secondary schools.

Among the more than 36,000 promoted teachers, a notable number hold degrees and diplomas. TSC also expects to consider these educators for deployment to junior secondary schools.

Deployment Requirements for P1 Teachers in JSS

The TSC has outlined strict prerequisites for the deployment of primary school teachers to junior secondary schools.

Only those with a degree in education (with a secondary option) will be considered eligible for deployment, according to the commission’s confirmation. The application deadline for this process closed on March 18, 2024.

TSC also gave PTE teachers an extra chance to work in junior schools during the third phase of teacher promotions.

Furthermore, the commission stipulates that applicants must possess a current Teachers Service Commission registration certificate and be permanent employees with pension benefits as primary school teachers.

A diploma in education is mandatory, along with a minimum KCSE grade of C+ and at least a C+ in both teaching subjects.

Former system teachers, however, were required to have two principles and one A-level subsidiary pass.

In addition, each applicant must have completed a minimum of 8 units in each of the two specialist teaching areas and should not be under any disciplinary action or interdiction.

Ineligibility of the Primary Option A bachelor’s degree in education

Teachers holding a primary option bachelor’s degree in education are not eligible for consideration.
