TSC Asks Teachers to Register with NSSF by July 31, 2024

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a directive requiring all teachers to register as members of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) by July 31, 2024.

This directive is detailed in Circular No. 9/2024, which was distributed to various TSC regional, county, and sub-county directors, as well as principals of diploma and primary teacher training colleges.

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF), established under the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013, provides Social Security benefits, Survivor benefits, and Invalidity benefits to workers.

In compliance with this Act, the TSC implemented payroll deductions for onward remittance to the NSSF starting in July 2023.

These deductions apply to all employees on the Commission’s payroll, regardless of their current NSSF registration status.

The TSC emphasizes that it is the individual responsibility of all employees to ensure their registration with the NSSF. This registration is crucial for the proper crediting of their monthly contributions to their respective NSSF accounts.

Registration Avenues

Teachers who are not yet registered with the NSSF can do so through the following methods:

  • Physical Visit: Visit the nearest NSSF office with their National Identity Card.
  • Huduma Centre: Visit the nearest Huduma Centre office with their National Identity Card.
  • Mobile Registration: Dial *303# on their Safaricom lines and follow the provided prompts.

Alternatively, teachers can coordinate with the nearest NSSF branch office to arrange for a Registration Team to visit a convenient location where unregistered teachers can register in person with their identification documents.

Dissemination and Compliance

The circular urges all TSC Regional Directors, County Directors, Sub-County Directors, the Director of CEMASTEA, the Director of KISE, and all principals of diploma and primary teacher training colleges to disseminate this information to all teachers within their jurisdictions and ensure compliance.
