TSC Clarifies Retooling of P1 Teachers and Upgrading Program for Pre-2019 Graduates
According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), P1 teachers who graduated before 2019 and are not employed by the Commission started a 9-month upgrading program in 2019 to elevate their P1 Certificates to a Diploma Level.
TSC highlighted that to ensure inclusivity and non-discrimination, they continue to employ teachers with P1 certificates who have not pursued the diploma upgrade.
Once employed, these teachers undergo a comprehensive retooling program to enable them to effectively implement CBC.
Regarding whether TSC will prioritize teachers who currently hold P1 certificates during recruitment once they upgrade to the Diploma level, the commission stated that TSC is an equal opportunity employer that adheres to legal principles.
They have developed Recruitment Guidelines to govern the recruitment process lawfully, ensuring it respects the rights and freedoms under the Constitution. These guidelines outline the skills and competencies required for recruitment.
Under the recruitment guidelines, TSC has also developed a Recruitment Score Card. This scorecard is inclusive, considering items such as professional qualifications, age, length of stay since qualification as a teacher, and CBC upgrade.
The commission provides a sample scorecard that reflects the higher marks awarded to teachers who have completed the diploma upgrade program.
