In his address, Oyucho encouraged teachers to practice self-care by occasionally stepping away from work responsibilities to relax and recharge.

He highlighted that maintaining a balanced work-life schedule can significantly boost mental health and foster a more supportive professional environment.

Oyucho shared these remarks during a wellness event in Kisumu at the Jomo Kenyatta Sportsground.

Hundreds of teachers participated in various recreational activities, including tug-of-war, soccer, and chess, designed to relieve stress and enhance mental wellness.

He reiterated TSC’s support for such events, encouraging other regions to organize similar activities to further promote mental health within the teaching community.

Support from Leaders and Organizations

Nyakach MP Asuma Owuir also addressed mental health initiatives, explaining that he had established a trauma center within his constituency to support Gender-Based Violence (GBV) victims and accident survivors.

Additionally, the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairperson, George Opiyo, noted that the wellness event would now be held regularly to continue fostering a healthier work environment for educators.
