TSC Gets Sh8.3 billion for 26,000 Intern Teachers’ Permanent Employment
The government has allocated a significant portion of the funds, Sh8.3 billion, to convert 26,000 teachers from contract to permanent and pensionable terms in January next year.
Among these, 4,000 are primary school teachers and 22,000 are secondary school teachers who will have completed two years of service by year-end.

The government began recruiting teachers on one-year contracts in 2019 under the “internship” program.
However, the teachers currently on contract have been protesting, demanding to be absorbed under permanent and pensionable terms, following a court ruling in their favor.
The commission obtained orders to stay implementation of the judgment until August and is also appealing it.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has made its presentation to the Departmental Committee on Education and Research of the National Assembly for consideration.
Junior secondary school intern teachers have vowed to continue holding protests across the country until the Teachers Service Commission employs them on permanent and pensionable terms.
The intern teachers currently work under annual contracts.
