TSC Outlines Requirements for Teacher Recruitment in Primary Schools.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has outlined specific requirements for the recruitment of primary school teachers under permanent and pensionable terms for the 2024/2025 financial year.
The process follows an advertisement calling for applications and aims to ensure transparency and adherence to legal and ethical standards.
General Requirements
Registration: All applicants must be registered teachers in accordance with Section 23(1) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, 2012. Any unregistered applicant will not be considered for recruitment.
Application Submission: Applications must be submitted online through the TSC platform at www.teachersonline.go.ke. Applicants should target vacancies declared in their respective counties or sub-counties.

Induction of Selection Panels: TSC Regional Directors will induct County Directors, who in turn will induct the Selection Panels involved in the recruitment process. This induction covers relevant sections of the TSC Act and the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT, 2015).
Accessibility for Disabled Applicants: TSC Sub-County Directors, along with County Directors, must ensure that the selection venues are accessible to applicants with disabilities.
Document Variance: Applicants with name discrepancies in their academic and professional documents must provide an Affidavit explaining the variance as per the Oaths and Statutory Declarations Act, Cap 15 of the Laws of Kenya.
Document Requirements
Applicants are required to present original and photocopies of the following documents:
- National identification card
- Certificate of Registration as a teacher
- Primary Teacher Education (PTE) Certificate or Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE) Certificate (where applicable)
- KCSE and KCPE certificates or their equivalents, including all certificates for re-sat exams
- KNEC letters certifying results (if applicable)
- Primary and secondary school leaving certificates
- National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) card (where applicable)
- An Affidavit explaining any name variance (where necessary)
For applicants who re-sat either KCPE or KCSE, certified copies of certificates for all attempts are mandatory. Any cancelled exams must be accompanied by a letter from the institution and a certified KNEC printout confirming the cancellation.
Selection Process
The recruitment process will follow a transparent selection process led by Sub-County Selection Panels.
The panels will comprise the Sub-County Director, a Human Resource Officer, and a Curriculum Support Officer.
The TSC Sub-County Director will ensure that all applicants are notified of the interview venue, date, and time at least seven days in advance through SMS.
Merit List Compilation
After verifying documents, the TSC Sub-County Director will compile a Merit List of all applicants, which will be submitted to the County Directors.
The County Directors will then forward a County Merit List to TSC Headquarters for further verification.
Additional Considerations
- Preference: Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously been employed by the TSC on permanent and pensionable terms. Applicants from the respective sub-counties or counties will also be given preference.
- Handling of Tied Applicants: In the event of a tie, selection will be determined by the length of time since graduation and the strength of academic and professional certificates. If applicants still tie, aggregate KCSE grades will be considered.
