TSC Begins Replacing 742 Fired Junior Secondary School Teachers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has begun replacing some of the 742 Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers recently dismissed nationwide.
This replacement follows a period of uncertainty and dissatisfaction among affected educators.
In Kisii, some pioneer JSS teachers from Asome Pioneer Teachers have been forced to cease reporting to their schools.
TSC has substituted them with new teachers, disrupting their professional and personal lives. This change occurred two weeks after JSS teachers had resumed classes, awaiting confirmation from their employer.
Personal Impact on Teachers
Several impacted teachers, highlight the severe impact of these dismissals in Bomachoge Chache and South Mugirango in Kisii County.
In Ikoba, Bomachoge Chache, 33-year-old Kerubo expressed her despair after being barred from returning to her school.
Despite being a pioneer JSS teacher, she has been confined to her home for three days, struggling to cope with the unexpected directive.
“We were on an industrial strike and returned after re-tooling, but the head teacher told my friends and me that we shouldn’t report back to school,” she said.
Kerubo’s situation is dire; she lives in a single room, relying on leftover food and sugarcane for sustenance.

She urged the government to address her plight and that of her colleagues, many of whom are primary breadwinners for their families.
“The Teachers Service Commission should observe transparency… now I have been fired, and I have a child to send to school. How will I manage this?” she lamented.
The replacement of dismissed JSS teachers by TSC has stirred significant concern among educators and stakeholders.
With calls for reinstatement and potential legal action looming, the situation underscores the challenges faced by teachers and the implications for the education system in Kenya.
