TSC Seeks Qualification Data of Serving Primary School Teachers for JSS Deployment

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has initiated a comprehensive assessment aimed at determining the number of primary school teachers currently holding Bachelor’s and Diploma degrees.

Directed by Dr. Mugwuku Nthamburi, Director of Teacher Professional Management, this assessment seeks to gather detailed data categorized by county, focusing on various qualification levels.

The assessment, outlined in memo TSC/DTPM/CDS/40/VOL.II/115 dated July 4, 2024, requests data from regional and county directors to be submitted by July 11, 2024.

The data will be categorized into several groups based on academic qualifications, including specific grade requirements in teaching subjects at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) level.

The assessment, overseen by the Directorate of Teacher Professional Management, aims to gather detailed data categorized by county and specific qualifications.

Directors are instructed to provide data categorized into six groups based on qualifications:

i). Holders of Bachelor’s and Diploma certificates with a minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE and at least a C+ in each of the two teaching subjects (or equivalent).

ii). Holders of Bachelor’s and Diploma certificates with a minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE and at least a C plain in each of the two teaching subjects (or equivalent).

iii). Holders of Bachelor’s and Diploma degrees with a minimum mean grade of C plain at KCSE and at least a C+ in each of the two teaching subjects (or equivalent).

iv). Holders of Bachelor’s and Diploma degrees with a minimum mean grade of C plain at KCSE and at least a C plain in each of the two teaching subjects (or equivalent).

v). Holders of Bachelor’s and Diploma degrees with a minimum mean grade of C- (minus) and below, with two teaching subjects (grades in teaching subjects not specified).

vi). Other categories as specified.

Dr. Nthamburi emphasized the importance of this assessment in ensuring that primary school teachers meet the necessary qualifications to enhance educational standards across the country.
