TSC Teacher Replacement Application Ends, Promotion Interviews Set to Begin.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will close its online application portal at midnight today for the recruitment of 8,707 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. The application period, which began on December 31, 2024, has allowed qualified candidates to submit applications for various vacancies.

The recruitment drive aims to replace teachers who exited service through natural attrition, such as retirement, resignation, or death. The distribution of the positions is as follows:

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be Kenyan citizens.
  • Hold a P1 certificate for primary school positions or a diploma in education for junior and secondary school positions.
  • Be registered teachers with the Teachers Service Commission.
Application Process

Applications have been conducted exclusively online via the TSC’s website or the teacher’s online portal. The portal opened on December 31, 2024, and will close on January 13, 2025, at midnight. Applicants were instructed to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Manual applications are not accepted.
  • Only one application per candidate is allowed; multiple applications lead to disqualification.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been employed by TSC.

Upcoming TSC Promotion Interviews

Following the conclusion of the recruitment exercise, TSC will shift focus to conducting promotion interviews for 19,943 vacancies in various job groups, funded by a KSh 1 billion allocation from the Treasury. The interviews will begin on January 15, 2025.

TSC has invited shortlisted candidates to collect their invitation letters and prepare for interviews. Teachers are required to bring the following documents:

  • National Identity Card.
  • Academic and professional certificates.
  • Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD) ratings for the past three years.
  • Appointment letters for current grades.
  • Acting capacity letters (if applicable).
  • Disability membership cards for applicants with disabilities.

Successful candidates will also need to provide compliance documents required under Chapter 6 of the Constitution before being officially appointed.

TSC has urged teachers who previously applied for promotions during the November 2024 recruitment exercise to reapply. The Commission seeks to promote teachers in primary and post-primary institutions from job group C1 to D4.
