TSC to Announce 20,000 Contract Teaching Vacancies for JSS Next Week.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to advertise 20,000 contract-based teaching positions next week, specifically targeting junior schools. This recruitment drive aims to provide job opportunities for many unemployed teachers nationwide.

This new recruitment follows the recent hiring of 46,000 junior school teachers under permanent terms, as confirmed by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia.

She also disclosed that the commission would soon invite applications for teacher promotions.

She confirmed that the TSC had secured funding for hiring teachers on contract, commonly referred to as interns, who are expected to begin work in January 2025.

KUPPET’s Role in the Recruitment Discussions

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) announced the upcoming recruitment of 20,000 junior school teachers as part of its negotiations with the TSC.

“I am proud to say that the union has won more than 80 percent of our demands. As I speak here, the TSC is finalising the recruitment of 20,000 new teachers for junior school.

“This recruitment will be strictly for science teachers. The advertisement will be published on October 29, 2024, giving eligible teachers one week to apply,” said Mr Misori.

KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori disclosed this on Friday during the Kilifi branch general assembly in Kaloleni.

Following a recent return-to-work agreement, KUPPET and TSC have engaged in several discussions, addressing critical demands put forward by the union after a nationwide strike.

Misori stated that 80% of KUPPET’s demands have been achieved, and that science teachers will be prioritized in the recruitment.

The TSC is scheduled to publish the advertisement on October 29, 2024, providing eligible candidates one week to submit applications.
