TSC to Promote 45,000 Teachers in November, Says KUPPET.
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) says that TSC will soon post promotions for 45,000 teachers who have remained in the same job group for over five years, with applications set to open on the TSC portal.
Interviews for these promotions will begin in mid-November 2024.
KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori urged branch leaders to identify approximately 1,000 senior teachers who have experienced stagnation for over a decade, ensuring they receive fair treatment from the employer.
“Kuppet has asked the TSC to pay special attention to approximately 1,000 senior teachers who have stagnated for more than 10 years.”

“I ask branch leaders to identify these teachers who have suffered in silence for years so they can get justice from the employer,” said Mr Misori.
Review of Career Progression Guidelines
Career progression has been a longstanding concern, with current guidelines (CPGs) often cited as hindrances to advancement in the teaching profession.
TSC and KUPPET have been in discussions regarding a revision of the CPGs. Misori reported that the commission has made considerable progress in reviewing these guidelines to streamline promotional grades and foster career growth.
KUPPET plans to provide input on the new CPGs, expected to take effect in January 2025.
“The commission has made significant progress on reviewing the CPGs that have caused stagnation in the teaching service.

“The union will soon give its input to the new guidelines, which will reduce the number of promotional grades and ensure quick career growth for teachers. The new guidelines will be launched in December for their application starting January 2025,” Mr Misori said.
