The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced abrupt leadership changes at Bungoma’s Friends Teremi Boys High School.

Dr. Elphas Luvaso, the principal at Teremi Boys, has been reassigned to Malava Boys High School in Kakamega North County. In a reciprocal arrangement, John Wakwabubi, the chief principal of Malava Boys, will take over as the new head at Teremi Boys.

Wilson Koros, the Kakamega TSC Director, has confirmed these adjustments.

Dr. Luvaso’s tenure at Teremi Boys High has been marked by tension, primarily driven by opposition from parents and the local community. He has attributed this resistance to tribalism and political interference.

This friction culminated in unrest on the night of Monday, January 20, when students reportedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the school’s academic performance.

This dissatisfaction was highlighted by the poor results in the 2024 KCSE, where several students scored a Y. The unrest led to significant destruction, including damage to the principal’s residence and vehicle.

James Wanzala, the school’s Alumni Secretary, has welcomed the transfer. He stated that the community hopes the incoming principal will bring the necessary reforms to improve the school’s academic performance and foster harmony within the local community.

Previous Incidents

The unrest at Teremi Boys last week escalated into chaos, with students engaging in destructive actions within the school compound. Anti-riot police were called to restore order. While the Ministry of Education has yet to release an official report on the incident, the school’s management has refrained from commenting publicly.

Parents and the surrounding community remain anxious as they await the results of ongoing investigations. The hope is that the leadership changes will mark a turning point for the institution and pave the way for stability and improved performance.
