TSC Urges School Principals to Prepare for the first cohort of CBC learners
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has asked school heads to prepare for the first cohort of the Competency-Based Curriculum learners, expected to complete JSS next year.
Ms. Macharia stated that principals need to have adequate arrangements in place to receive these students.
TSC is currently drafting circulars to assist teachers in preparing for the new curriculum.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) for their significant role in providing state agencies with valuable insights.
These insights he said, are crucial for guiding strategic interventions, particularly during the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
This partnership ensures that the education sector can effectively address emerging challenges, thereby improving the quality of education for secondary school students across Kenya.
The Competency-Based Curriculum
The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is designed to be student-centered, flexible, and inclusive, making it ideal for future generations.
The Deputy President outlined that the CBC system focuses on three pathways:
- Social Sciences
- Arts and Sports
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

At the 47th Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Annual National Conference, the Deputy President emphasized the necessity of a flexible education system. He warned that inflexibility would lead to significant challenges in the future.
