TVET Students Invited to Apply for HELB Scholarships and Loans: How to Apply
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), in partnership with the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training, is now accepting applications for the Second and Subsequent TVET Scholarship, Loan, and Bursary for the 2024-2025 financial year.
This opportunity is available for Kenyan students who are continuing their education at National Polytechnics, Technical Training Institutes, and Vocational Colleges under the Ministry of Education.
To be eligible, institutions must be registered with the Kenya Universities & Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and be members of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI).

Eligibility Criteria
Continuing students who are enrolled in approved TVET courses and are applying for their second or subsequent student loans are eligible to apply. This program aims to provide financial assistance to students pursuing technical and vocational education and training.
Application Process
Students can apply for the scholarship and loan through the following steps:
- Download the HELB App or Use USSD Code:
- Download the HELB App from the Google Play Store or dial *642# to access the application platform.
- Registration:
- Register using your mobile phone number to generate a PIN for logging in. Ensure the mobile number is registered under your name, as unregistered numbers will not be able to proceed.
- Terms and Conditions:
- Read, understand, and accept the terms and conditions provided.
- Personal Information:
- Enter your first name as it appears on your national ID card, along with your ID number and a valid email address to complete registration.
- Choose Scholarship or Loan Option:
- Click on the “scholarship,” “loan,” or “loans & scholarship” tab and select Certificate/Diploma. Then click “apply” for the Undergraduate second and subsequent scholarship and loan.
- Financial Literacy Tutorial:
- Read the process tutorial, understand the financial literacy guide, answer the questions, and proceed with the application.
- Start Application:
- Click on “get started” to begin the application process. Enter your phone number and national ID number for verification.
- Agree to Terms:
- Read and accept the scholarship/loan terms and conditions to proceed.
- Submit Application:
- Click “request loan” to view and verify your loan details, select your preferred loan payment option, and click “submit” to complete the application. A confirmation pop-up will appear, displaying your loan serial number.
- Notifications and Assistance:
- Applicants will receive notifications about awards and disbursements of upkeep and tuition loans, and where applicable, bursaries. For further assistance, contact HELB directly.

Important Notes
- The application process is entirely paperless, and no printed forms are required.
- A confirmation SMS with a loan application serial number will serve as evidence of application. Save this SMS for future reference.
- HELB does not charge any fees for accessing the loan application.
- The closing date for applications is December 31, 2024.
