University of Nairobi to Establish Artificial Intelligence School, Offer First AI Master’s Degree In Kenya.
The University of Nairobi is set to establish an Artificial Intelligence school as part of its plans to create skilled manpower for the future.
UoN Chancellor Prof. Patrick Verkooijen announced on Citizen TV that the university will soon start offering the first-ever AI master’s degree.
Verkooijen explained that the initiative is driven by the economic growth trajectory associated with AI.

He emphasized that the university has the necessary assets, including top-tier computer science and business entrepreneurship students, combined with an innovative spirit, to build a strong foundation for the future.
“We have the best computer science students, business entrepreneurship students and then combined with this innovation part we have something to build on for the future,” Verkooijen said.
He highlighted that the future will greatly depend on AI, and there is a need to create skills for future jobs.
Verkooijen also revealed that the university is planning to create a Green Jobs Centre, where the institution will teach about climate change.

He pointed out that most future jobs will be centred around climate change and the environment, and thus there is a need to prepare learners for these upcoming opportunities.
