Zetech University to Build On-Campus Hostel and Sports Facilities to Enhance Student Welfare.
Zetech University has announced plans to begin construction of on-campus hostel facilities early next year, aiming to provide secure and affordable housing for students, especially those studying at the Weitethie Campus.
This development will be particularly beneficial for students currently residing in Weitethie’s hyena-threatened neighborhood.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene shared the university’s plans at a recent stakeholder meeting, where he outlined the institution’s commitment to creating a safe and conducive learning environment.
Recognizing the need for secure, budget-friendly student housing, Prof. Munene stated that the university has ample land and is working on mobilizing resources to launch the project in phases, responding to student demand as it grows.
Affordability and Demand-Based Expansion
The initial construction phase, set to launch next year, will focus on infrastructure development, specifically to reduce students’ reliance on off-campus housing.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the inconvenience students face when they must seek accommodation outside the campus.
He assured students and stakeholders that the university-hostel accommodations would be affordable and developed progressively to match the increasing student population.
“Next year, our focus will be on infrastructural development, particularly constructing accommodation facilities for the students. We know how inconveniencing it is for students to get accommodation outside the institution,” he said.
For students at Weitethie Campus, the planned hostels represent a timely security boost, distancing them from the danger posed by nearby hyenas, which have attacked local residents in recent months.
Reports of tragic encounters, including fatalities among residents, have heightened fears, especially among students studying late and traveling through the estate after hours.
While the students themselves have not fallen victim to hyena attacks, the recurrent incidents have raised alarm.
Welcoming the initiative, students expressed relief that the on-campus accommodation would provide not only convenience but also a safer learning environment.
Philip Kabue, a student at the university, noted that staying within the institution would ease safety concerns and foster a more focused academic atmosphere.
Sports Facilities Planned to Enhance Co-Curricular Engagement
In addition to accommodation facilities, Zetech University plans to invest in state-of-the-art sports facilities aimed at bolstering their students’ fitness and co-curricular competitiveness. Prof. Munene announced that these sports facilities would span multiple fields, enabling students to engage in various athletic activities.
This move is intended to position Zetech University as a leader in sports, providing a balanced environment that promotes both physical and intellectual growth.
“This is good news having to stay inside the institution as it creates a good learning environment. It also offers security away from the marauding hyenas that have been wreaking havoc to the locals,” said Philip Kabue, one of the students.

According to Prof. Munene, the facilities will support the university’s aspiration to become a hub for competitive sports, enhancing students’ holistic educational experience and positioning Zetech University as a vibrant institution that prioritizes well-being alongside academic excellence.
