19 Education Officials Suspended Over KCSE Exam Malpractice in Kisii, 34 mobile Phones Containing Answers Seized.
In Kisii County, the Ministry of Education has suspended 19 officials from Kebabe SDA Secondary and Boarding School after uncovering extensive cheating during the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
The suspended officials include the center manager, deputy manager, two supervisors, and 15 invigilators who were entrusted with overseeing the KCSE exams at the school.
This suspension follows a Ministry-led investigation that revealed mobile phones and unauthorized exam materials, such as shorthand notes and pre-written answers, in the examination setting.
During routine monitoring at the examination site, officials from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) discovered the illicit materials, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to step in.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos highlighted a troubling trend: adults, rather than students, are increasingly implicated in examination malpractice.
Migos noted that despite measures to curb cheating—including disabling the Telegram messaging platform during exams—cheating remains a widespread issue.

He expressed concern that adults are actively involved in facilitating malpractice, undermining the integrity of the examination process.
Additional Security and Future Actions
The Ministry has taken measures to increase security in exam centers to safeguard the credibility of the KCSE exams.
This year, several arrests related to exam malpractice have been reported, particularly in Siaya and Eldoret, where adults were also apprehended in connection with cheating attempts.
Education CS Migos promised to release comprehensive statistics on examination-related arrests and suspensions once the exam period concludes next week.
Today, KCSE candidates completed exams in religious studies and history. Tomorrow, they are set to sit for Biology Paper 2 and History Paper 2 as the examination season progresses.
