2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) Timetable and Guidelines.
All first-session assessment papers are scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m. The duration allocated for each paper is specified alongside its title, and no additional time will be granted.
If any discrepancies arise, the time printed on the question paper shall be considered final. The period allocated for reading instructions is included within the examination duration unless stated otherwise in specific paper instructions.
Teachers must ensure that candidates thoroughly read and comply with all instructions. They should also inform candidates about the consequences of examination misconduct or irregularities.
Candidates must arrive early to allow time for security checks outside the examination room and be seated 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
The morning session begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the second session as per the timetable. Latecomers must provide a valid explanation to the Supervisor, and those arriving more than 30 minutes late may only be permitted under exceptional circumstances.
Candidates should verify that all pages of their question paper are correctly printed. Names and assessment numbers must be accurately recorded on the question paper and answer script. Any missing materials, such as maps or additional resources mentioned in the question, should be immediately reported to the Supervisor.
General paper instructions, particularly regarding the number of questions to answer, must be strictly followed. Answers should be written on both sides of the paper without using the margins. Each response must begin on a new line, and question numbers should be clearly indicated in the left margin. Candidates must not copy the questions and should leave a blank line after each answer.

Candidates should use black or blue ink, avoiding erasable pens, while pencils are only allowed for diagrams. Required mathematical or drawing instruments should be brought where necessary. It is advisable to read each question carefully to avoid providing unnecessary information and to allocate time effectively across all questions.
Once the invigilator announces the end of the assessment, candidates must confirm that their name, assessment number, signature, and date are recorded on the answer booklet before submission.
Cautionary Measures for Candidates
Candidates must remain in the examination room until the allocated time ends unless granted special permission by the Supervisor. Any permitted departure must not involve carrying question papers or answer scripts outside the room.
All answer scripts should be kept private to prevent other candidates from copying. Seeking, giving, or attempting to receive unauthorized assistance is strictly prohibited. Communication with fellow candidates or outsiders during the assessment is not allowed.
Only officially authorized materials, including the question paper, are permitted inside the assessment room. Unauthorized books, notes, or other materials are strictly forbidden. Candidates using mathematical tables must ensure they are KNEC-approved and free of additional notes. Permitted calculators must be non-programmable, and any doubts should be clarified with the Supervisor.
Damaged or misprinted question papers should be immediately reported and returned to the Supervisor. No paper, whether used or unused, should be taken out of the examination room. Any rough work should be done in the official answer booklet and left on the desk for collection and disposal by the Supervisor.
Any disruptive behavior in or near the assessment room will be considered a serious irregularity. Candidates appearing for practical assessments in shifts must remain in confinement; failure to do so will be regarded as an irregularity.
The possession of mobile phones or electronic communication devices is strictly forbidden within the examination centre. Any candidate found with such devices will have their results cancelled. Additionally, any suspected malpractice should be reported to KNEC through the Headteacher, teachers, or other appropriate channels.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF EXAMINATION OFFICIALS
Role of Centre Managers, Supervisors, and Invigilators
Each assessment centre should have a Supervisor for every 200 candidates, with an invigilator assigned for every 20 candidates per examination room. Only individuals authorized by KNEC are permitted within the assessment centre during examinations.
Supervisors and invigilators must ensure that candidates receive personalized question papers bearing their names and random numbers, along with other identifying features to be communicated during the assessment period. Before answer scripts are packed, supervisors must verify that candidates have signed both their scripts and the script control form. The scripts should be counted to confirm they match the number of present candidates.
The seating plan and script control forms should not bear any school identification marks or be stamped by the centre manager. Supervisors and centre managers must also ensure that the correct return envelopes and cover pages are used, with answer scripts evenly distributed in the provided envelopes to prevent overstuffing.

PENALTIES FOR ASSESSMENT IRREGULARITIES
As per the KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012, Sections 27 to 40, examination irregularities will result in severe penalties. Notable highlights include:
- Any candidate involved in an irregularity within a subject will have their entire subject results cancelled, making them ineligible for a result in that subject.
- If widespread irregularities occur in an examination centre, results for the entire centre will be nullified.
Individuals found guilty of accessing and disclosing assessment materials to unauthorized parties, whether candidates or not, will face penalties under Section 27 of the Act. This includes imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine not exceeding two million shillings, or both.
Those who deliberately damage assessment materials violate Section 30 of the Act, facing imprisonment for up to five years or fines up to five million shillings, or both. Impersonation, whereby an unregistered person attempts to take an exam on behalf of a candidate, is punishable under Section 31 of the Act with imprisonment of up to two years, a fine up to two million shillings, or both. Additionally, the offender will be banned from participating in any KNEC assessments for three years.
Candidates are urged to avoid any form of misconduct to ensure their results remain valid.
