Moi University Lecturers, Staff to Persist with the Ongoing Strike.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi University chapter held a virtual meeting on Sunday evening, confirming their intent to persist with the ongoing strike.

The chapter’s Secretary General, Busolo Wekesa, communicated that members unanimously agreed to continue the local strike without interruption.

To demonstrate unity and solidarity, they resolved to organize rallies at the Main Campus and the PDN branch in Eldoret.

University staff are protesting due to delays in implementing the Return to Work Formula (RTWF) outlined in the 2021/2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The union has instructed all members to stay updated through union leadership and reach out to officials directly in case of urgent issues.

Parliamentary Committee’s Directive for Negotiations

Last Friday, the parliamentary committee on education directed both the university management and union representatives to negotiate terms for a swift return to normalcy.

The committee intended these discussions to enable university operations to resume on Monday, November 11, 2024, as students were scheduled to return to campus.

“This is to report the opening of the university with immediate effect. Students are to report back for their studies, and classes will resume on Monday, November 11, 2024,” said Kosgey.

In a memo issued Thursday, Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgey announced that the university would reopen immediately, with students expected to return to their studies starting Monday, despite the ongoing lecturers’ strike.
