Teacher Replacements: TSC to Post Successful Applicants to Schools This February.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to begin posting 8,707 newly recruited teachers to schools in February this year.
These recruits will fill positions left vacant due to natural attrition, such as retirement, resignation, and death. Among the positions advertised, 5,862 were allocated to primary schools, 21 to junior schools, and 2,824 to secondary schools.
Currently, TSC is conducting document verification for all applicants across sub-counties. Applicants are required to present original documents along with legible photocopies for the verification exercise.
Required Documents for Primary School Teachers
- National identification card
- Certificate of Registration as a teacher
- Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE) Certificate or PTE Certificate
- KCSE and KCPE certificates, including those for repeated attempts
- Letter of Certification of results from KNEC (if applicable)
- Primary and Secondary School leaving certificates
- National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Card (if applicable)
- Sworn affidavit to explain name discrepancies
Required Documents for Post-Primary School Teachers
- National identification card
- Certificate of Registration as a teacher
- Diploma or Degree certificate and official transcripts
- KCSE and KCPE certificates, including those for repeated attempts
- Primary and Secondary School leaving certificates
- National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Card (if applicable)
- Sworn affidavit to explain name discrepancies
- Letter of Certification of results from KNEC (if applicable)
Serving intern teachers only need to present their identity cards during this process. Persons with disabilities are required to declare their status and specify the nature of their disabilities to guide their placement.
Compilation of Merit Lists
Once verification is complete, the TSC Sub-County Director will compile a Merit List of verified applicants.
The Merit Lists will be accessible to the public upon request, ensuring adherence to the Data Protection Act, 2019. The Commission emphasized that the recruitment process must remain transparent and unaffected by any external interference.
The TSC has introduced additional scoring criteria to reward qualifications and experience.
Intern teachers employed by TSC will receive 30 additional marks, while holders of PTE certificates upgraded to UDPTE are awarded 5 extra marks. The recruited teachers will be employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
Online Application Portal
The online application portal was open from December 31, 2024, to January 13, 2025. Qualified applicants were required to meet the following criteria:
- Be Kenyan citizens
- Hold a P1 certificate for primary school positions or a diploma in education for junior and secondary schools
- Be registered with TSC as teachers

The vacancies arose following the natural attrition of teachers. The recruitment ensures the continuity of quality education by filling gaps in staffing. TSC reported that the Merit Lists and deployment plans align with its commitment to equitable and efficient teacher placement.
