KUCCPS to Open University Placement Portal in March for September 2025 Intake
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is set to open its placement portal in March 2025 for students applying to universities for the September 2025 intake.
This was announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba in a press statement issued on Thursday.
According to the CS, the portal has been operational since January 24, 2025, to facilitate the placement of applicants into the Kenya Medical Training College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions for the March and May 2025 intakes.
He confirmed that the upcoming March opening would allow students to apply for their preferred university courses as part of the annual placement calendar.
Addressing speculation regarding cut-off points, Ogamba clarified that the government has not reinstated cut-off requirements for university admissions. He assured the public that all 246,391 students who qualified for direct university entry would secure placement.
The CS reiterated that the minimum university admission requirement remains a mean grade of C+ (plus), applying to students from the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort.
He emphasized that all students meeting this criterion would be eligible for university admission without any modifications to the system.

University Funding for 2024 KCSE Cohort
Ogamba also dispelled claims that funding university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort would amount to Ksh100 billion. He stated that the projected cost for supporting over 200,000 students set to join universities in September 2025 is Ksh25.85 billion per year.
Contrary to certain media reports, he clarified that the Ksh100 billion estimate represents the total cost over four years rather than an annual expense.
The Ministry projects that if all 246,391 qualified candidates enroll, the government will require Ksh25.85 billion annually to support their education.
