Uproar as Kisii MPs Distribute TSC and KFS Appointment Letters at Social Events

An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator expressed alarm over the increasing number of Kisii politicians attending social parties with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employment letters.

The MP made the statements on Sunday, following a scuffle between ODM and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MPs in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency during a fundraiser.

Speaking about the turbulent situations, the MP claimed that his UDA colleague, who started distributing employment letters, was the cause.

The MP explained the origins of the fight, stating that one UDA MP started distributing TSC and Kenya Forestry Services employment letters.

Kitutu Chache Anthony Kibagendi, a member of parliament, announced that parliament would debate the issue.

He remarked that they were going to raise tough questions in Parliament regarding how certain MPs could possess employment letters for specific government departments.

This was not the first time leaders from the region distributed appointment letters during an event.

Last year, MP Silvanus Osoro stated that he had received 100 TSC appointment letters for his constituency.

The National Assembly Majority Whip explained how the region benefited from the administration, revealing that the letters in his hands were reserved for South Mugirango people.

Months later, Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu distributed TSC appointment letters during a funeral in the Kisii area.

At one point, a young man approached the dais and kneeled in front of the CS, begging for assistance.

Machogu asked the young man if he was a teacher. Once the young man nodded, the CS handed him an appointment letter.

MPs Have No Role

The Teachers Service Commission has been facing increasing pressure to clarify the involvement of Members of Parliament (MPs) in the recruitment of teachers.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia is on record stating that MPs have no role in the hiring process. Macharia clarified that recruitment is solely managed by TSC, from headquarters to the ward level.

Last year, Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba accused politicians of hijacking the hiring advertised by Teachers’ Service Commission to reward their people.

The KUPPET official emphasized the need for TSC to maintain professionalism by distributing job positions equally nationwide and providing employment opportunities to all qualified teachers, including those who graduated long ago.

His sentiments were echoed by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who accused politicians allied to Kenya Kwanza of grabbing all government positions to reward their people.
