Academic Calendar Updates: Ministry of Education February Half-Term Break for Schools.

Nursery, primary, and secondary schools are scheduled to observe a February half-term break following their reopening for the first term in January.

The Ministry of Education has released the mid-term break schedule for public and private schools, providing a detailed timeline for the break and subsequent resumption of activities.

Half-Term Dates

  • General Schedule:
    • All schools will commence their half-term break on 26th February 2025.
    • Students will leave for the break on 25th February 2025 and resume classes on 2nd March 2025.
  • Secondary Schools:
    • Secondary schools, which often break earlier than primary schools, are expected to release their students on 22nd February 2025.

Post-Break Activities

Upon resuming from the half-term break, schools will immediately embark on co-curricular activities. These activities will be tailored separately for primary, junior secondary, and secondary schools, as outlined in the Ministry’s schedule.

Age Restrictions for Co-Curricular Activities

The Ministry has implemented strict age caps for participants to ensure fairness and minimize the risk of injuries:

  • Primary Schools: Only learners aged below 12 years are eligible.
  • Junior Secondary Schools: Participants must be below 15 years.
  • Secondary Schools: Students must be below 18 years to compete.

These restrictions, previously lifted after protests, were reintroduced to protect younger students and promote equitable competition.
