Commonwealth Scholarships for Kenyan Citizens: Applications Now Open.
The State Department for Higher Education and Research has announced the availability of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) awards for Kenyan citizens.
These scholarships, for the academic year 2025, will enable students to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees in the United Kingdom (UK).
Available Scholarships and Application Deadline
There are 10 PhD and 19 Master’s scholarships on offer, all fully funded and tenable at any UK university that is an approved CSC host.
The online application process, which began on September 10, 2024, will close on October 15, 2024. The fields of study open for application include:
- Food Security and Nutrition
- Manufacturing
- Health Care
- Housing
- Digital and Creative Economy
- Transforming MSMEs

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for these scholarships, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- Proof of Kenyan citizenship.
- A Bachelor’s degree for Master’s applicants and a Master’s degree for PhD applicants from recognized universities, alongside a strong academic background.
- Supporting statements from two referees.
- A research proposal for PhD applicants that demonstrates its potential impact on Kenya’s development.
- A well-structured study plan.
- Availability to commence studies in the UK by September 2025.

Application Process
Applicants must complete the online application and submit printed copies of the completed forms to the Ministry of Education by 5:00 pm in October 2024.
PhD applicants should apply through the link: CSC PhD Scholarships, while Master’s applicants should use: CSC Master’s Scholarships.
The Ministry of Education urges interested and eligible students to apply within the given timeframe.
