Entry Requirements
Applicants for the Diploma in Teacher Education – Pre-Primary and Primary must meet the following criteria:
- Attain a mean grade of C Plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination or its equivalent as determined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
- Special Needs Education (SNE) candidates may be admitted with a mean grade of C Minus (-) or its equivalent.
Training Duration
The program spans a total of three years.
Subjects Offered
Trainees pursuing the Diploma in Teacher Education – Pre-Primary and Primary are required to undertake all courses specified in the DTE-PP&P curriculum. This includes both Professional Courses and content-based learning areas aligned with the Pre-Primary and Primary School Curriculum.
Micro-Teaching and Practicum
Micro-teaching is an integral course within the program and serves as a prerequisite for the practicum. A course design has been developed for micro-teaching, which will be followed by two school term practicum sessions. Guidelines for these practicum sessions will be provided.
Award of the Diploma
To qualify for the Diploma in Teacher Education – Pre-Primary and Primary (DTE-PP&P), candidates must fulfill the following requirements:
- Complete the prescribed coursework hours and pass the assessments set by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
- Successfully complete the practicum hours and pass the relevant assessments as stipulated by KNEC.

In cases where a candidate fails to meet the requirements for the award of the diploma, they will be permitted to retake the specific component or learning area in which they were unsuccessful.

The grading for the Diploma in Teacher Education – Pre-Primary and Primary (DTE-PP&P) will adhere to the guidelines established by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
