Reforms across all education levels aim to enhance the market relevance and global competitiveness of Kenyan learners.

“This is why the government is investing heavily in infrastructure development in the education sector, such as classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, libraries, electricity, and internet connectivity.

“We want education that will impact and cause relevance for the professionals we produce in the growing world labour market. It is only then that we shall meet global standards,” he added.

Dr. Esther Thaara, Principal Secretary for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has also instructed all institutions under her ministry to align their course offerings with the needs of the job market. This directive aims to facilitate the smooth transition of graduates into the workforce.

Dr. Thaara emphasized the importance of collaboration between TVET institutions and key industry players. She stressed that the primary goal is to produce graduates with practical, industry-relevant skills.

Dual TVET and Skills Development

Dr. Thaara further explained that the Ministry of Education is focused on implementing the dual TVET system, where 50 percent of the learners’ time will be spent in industry settings.

She mentioned that this initiative is part of the Kenya Kwanza Government’s vision to provide comprehensive training with clear career outcomes.
